“I will never understand God’s intended reach for my life
until I have explored the outer most ripple.” – Cher Gatto
In Order to move toward the Outer Ripple… God’s fullest potential for our lives we must begin to approach life from the perspective of victory and not defeat. To many of us are walking around with our heads down and with the wind knocked out of our sails, facing our lives from a place of defeat and not victory. To often we live at half-mast. Never taking the risk to journey to the outer ripple and discover God’s intended reach for our lives.
How are you viewing your life today? Through the lens of defeat? Or the lens of victory?
What has knocked the wind out of your sails and caused you to retreat?
Often when things don’t seem to go our way for a prolonged period of time we begin to take on the disposition of being defeated and never realize our full potential. Our vision for our lives becomes small and instead of moving forward in the power of the resurrection we remain in a prison of fear. This week we continue our series with a post entitled I believe in the resurrection.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
As we continue to focus our attention on the events surrounding the crucifixion and now the resurrection we find that the crucifixion knocked the wind out of sails of Jesus closest followers. Following the crucifixion, they were living a defeated life, overcome by fear they literally hid behind locked doors. No forward movement – far from the the outer ripple of their God given destiny. They left everything to follow him and now Jesus was gone. Unjustly and brutally murdered. All seemed loss. They were utterly defeated and full of fear.
“On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.” John 20:19-20
The moment the disciples realized that Jesus was alive their perspective completely changed and they were emboldened to fully embrace their God given destiny. From deep loss and sorrow to overwhelming joy. From being frozen in fear to being set on fire for the cause of Christ. In Acts 4:33 we see this transformation, “with great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.”
The disciples left that place of defeat and started a movement that changed the world. They explored the outer ripple of God’s will for their lives. It all happened when they began to see their life through the lens of victory… and not defeat. Though the odds were stacked against them they lived their lives from victory and the rest was history.
Today through Christ we share in Christ’s victory and through Him we can step out of a place of fear and defeat and walk into the the victory that was already won for us through Jesus sacrificial death and victory over the grave. Through the crucifixion and the resurrection Jesus went to the outer ripple and is now seated at the Right hand of God ruling in absolute victory and authority over the heavens and the earth. The amazing reality is that through faith we are seated with Him. We are called and created for the outer ripple. When Jesus went the cross, he faced our greatest adversaries and completely destroyed them and now we can face life from a place of absolute victory and bust out of our prison cell of defeat.
“He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15
Jesus Destroyed the Power of Sin
God’s word reveals that Jesus destroyed the power of SIN at the cross. He waged war against SIN defeated it, nailed it to the cross and secured the victory.
Through the cross Jesus journeyed to the outer ripple and annihilated SIN and the moment we place our faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross our sins are completely washed away and SIN looses its power over our lives. The victory that Christ secured by giving Himself a perfect sacrifice becomes ours. Though we were once bound to sin (legally indebted and condemned), through Christ we become victorious over SIN. Through Christ the price has been paid. Jesus defeated the enemy of SIN through the cross. So through Christ we have the victory over the enemy of sin. Though we still battle with our own sin and the sins of others we face that battle from a place of victory! We do not walk through this life with our heads down in defeat we walk through this life victorious, fully forgiven, our debt fully paid and in the freedom and favor of God. Believer, non believer lift up your eyes toward the cross and celebrate the victory that He has won for you.
Jesus Destroyed the Powers of Darkness
The word of God goes on to further reveal that Jesus destroyed the powers of DARKNESS at the cross. He waged war with SATAN, defeated him and secured the victory.
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:15
Through the cross Jesus journeyed to the outer ripple and annihilated the powers of Darkness. He went toe to toe with Satan and destroyed him. He triumphed over Satan and his cronies, the fallen angles, rendering them powerless. That is why we say Satan is a defeated foe. His time is short. Jesus secured the victory and Satan is on a one-way train straight to the fiery pit of hell. Through Christ we are victorious over Satan he has no power over us. No weapon that is fashioned against us shall prosper, greater is He who is un us then he who is in the world.
Therefore, through Christ we have the victory over the enemy of SIN and SATAN. Though the battle between the darkens and light continues to rage we face that battle from a place of victory! We do not walk through this life with our heads down in defeat we walk through this life victorious, fully forgiven, our debt fully paid, the powers of darkness disarmed. Believer non-believer lift up your eyes toward the cross and celebrate the victory that He has won for you. Today through Christ we face life from a place of victory not defeat. Through Christ’s finished work we can press on toward the outer ripple of all God has for our lives with the full confidence that in Christ we are victorious.
Jesus Destroyed the Power of Death
If that wasn’t already the best news we have every heard Jesus went after another one of our enemies, DEATH and completely destroyed its power over our lives. After he was crucified died and buried He descend to the dead and destroyed the power of DEATH.
In Psalm 16:10 King David Prophesies that the Messiah, Jesus when he died will not be abandoned to the realm of the dead nor will he see decay. In others words, though Jesus faced death and descended to the place of the dead He was NOT be abandoned to the grave but will conquered the power of DEATH.
“because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.” Psalm 16:10
Not only did Jesus descend to the place of death and destroy the power of death but on the third day he rose from the grave and ascended into heaven where he is now seated at the right hand of God. Where He reigns supremely in absolute authority over the heavens and earth. In the book of Ephesians the word of God reveals the extent of Christ’s victory a that He secured through Calvary and the empty tomb.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 1:18-23
Jesus secured the victory. He went toe to toe with all our enemies defeated them and is now seated at the right hand of God and through faith we are seated with Him. His victory has become ours and we can now face this life from a place of absolute victory
“…because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
You were created for victory not defeat. You were created to explore the the outer most ripple and experience God’s intended reach for your life. Look to the cross, look to the empty tomb and raise your head toward heaven where you are seated in absolute victory in Christ. Let Jesus fill your sails and begin the journey toward the outer ripple, God’s intended reach for your life.
