I Believe in God Almighty Creator

I want to take us on the journey of allowing God to establish His power, authority and control in our lives. When it comes to the topic of power, authority and control we all struggle on some level and can find ourselves under the authority and control of something other than the loving infinite, intimate God of the universe who only, always has what’s best for us.

As I look back across my life it is clear I have allowed various things to have an unhealthy level of authority in my life.  Whether that is my fears, another person, my past and present mistakes, others’ opinions about me or the fear of rejection, to name a few; beyond that I give too much power to money, possessions.

But today, though I may wander, as a Child of God I no longer have to bow down to these false powers in my life that have been so detrimental and suffocating.  Today as a Child of God I live under the authority of God the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth. The infinite and intimate all powerful creator of the universe. For the children of God and the people of God there is only ONE power and authority in our lives today and on into eternity and that power and authority belongs to God the Father Almighty Creator of Heaven and Earth. Therefore the people of God through out the ages continue to proclaim:

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

God’s work in the creation reveals that He is the Almighty, All powerful Creator of all things. In Genesis 1:1-2 we read… “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The first words of the Bible state that God is the Creator God. No argument, no explanation, just a statement – God created. Out of nothing, He makes something!  That is a great idea to get your mind around, that God can take non-existent material and make something. This is known as creation ex nihilo which is the belief that God created this world out of nothing. Throughout the the Bible we see this truth revealed.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”
  (Psalm 33:6)

Last week while my wife Cher was away, I decided to go on a walk on Patriots Path. My short walk turned into a half day hike in the woods with the Lord. Let me take a minute to share with you an encounter I had with God as I spent time with Him and how He opened my eyes to His almighty power as revealed in the creation.

I look around me and I see more glory than I can comprehend. The sun pierces through the trees creating a multitude of shadows and a cascade of colors. The wind whispers through the canopy of leaves towering above the trail and stretching toward the sky. I discern the call of countless birds in the branches, the rustle of small animals beneath the forest floor, and the humming of insects all around me. This place is teaming with life. As I look out across the reeded marsh and see the majestic herrings fly, as I slap at a mosquito buzzing around my neck, I am transported back to another time and place, connected to a past. To generations gone by.

There is more life than my eyes and mind can absorb. Much to be learned and experienced on the earth. We have only scratched the surface of our infinite Creator. Not until the end of time itself will the scientist run out of things to explore and understand. Each area of creation—the ocean, the land, the sky, the heavens, and the earth—will never be void of mystery.

Lord have mercy and help me to understand. Give me eyes to see the beauty that surrounds me. When I look at this goodness, this wonder of life, the only real thing I can do is praise you, God! Your creation causes me to praise, and I am reminded of all the places where I experienced YOU in the depth of my soul.

As I gaze across the vastness of the Grand Canyon, and climb down into the black tunnels of Carlsbad Caverns. As I marvel at the force of the geysers in Yellowstone or experience the breaching of the blue whale in the Sea of Cortez, I praise YOU. As I climb the Appalachian trail or watch the Farmer’s Moon ascend over the ridge larger than life. As I sit on a rock in the high desert in the cool of the morn and track the flight of a broad-winged hawk, I thank you, God.

I am alive.

And I pray YOU tear down everything inside of me that is not YOU. Every voice that threatens the reality of YOU. That hinders my communion with YOU. Lead me into your presence, O Lord. Glory, honor, power, and praise be unto YOU, Almighty. Be unto YOU.  Forever and ever. YOU are an awesome and mighty God, and I bless and praise your glorious name!  I am struck with awe and wonder, Oh God, that YOU have given me eyes to see YOU through the creation!

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

One of the places where God has revealed His almighty power is through Christ’s sacrificial death and victory over the grave. God the Father displayed His Almighty power when Jesus went to the cross and secured victory over the grave. There at the cross and through the empty tomb Jesus established His authority over every power and dominion that has existed or will ever exist.

“And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” (Colossians 2:15)

What would our lives look like if we embraced these truths on a daily basis?

It has been my experience and the experience of Christ followers through the ages that as God becomes our stronghold the unhealthy footholds in our lives begin to lose their grip upon us.

As God becomes our stronghold our fears lose their foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold our guilt and shame lose their foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold our addictions lose their foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold our possessions and love for money lose the foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold our wounds lose their foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold our past present and future sin lose their foothold!

As God becomes our stronghold every dominion and power that exists in the unseen and seen world loses its foothold!

Prayer of Deliverance: This morning I declare that through Christ’s sacrificial death and victory over the grave that God the Father almighty maker of heaven and earth is the stronghold of my life. The infinite and intimate omnipotent creator of the universe is the preeminent power and authority over my life.  Today we proclaim in one unified voice.

I Believe in God the Father Almighty Maker of Heaven and Earth.
